F.28 Ignition Failure
The boiler tries to light but fails to establish flame. The cause may be gas valve related, but ignition electrodes, gas supply and PCB signals must also be tested.
Gas Safe diagnosis for Vaillant boiler gas valve faults, ignition problems, flame loss and unsafe combustion symptoms.
The gas valve is a safety-critical boiler component. It controls gas flow into the burner and works with the ignition system, flame supervision, PCB and combustion setup. A suspected gas valve issue should never be treated as a simple swap-out without test evidence, because similar symptoms can also be caused by ignition electrodes, flame sensing, gas supply pressure, wiring, PCB output or flue and combustion issues.
VaillantCare diagnoses gas valve-related faults using a Gas Safe process. The engineer checks the reported fault, lockout behaviour, ignition sequence, flame detection, appliance pressure, combustion readings and control signals where appropriate. Only after diagnosis can it be confirmed whether the gas valve itself is faulty, whether it can be adjusted safely, or whether another component is causing the symptom.
This matters commercially because gas valve replacement is more expensive than many common repairs. A disciplined diagnosis protects the customer from paying for an unnecessary part while also protecting safety, warranty records and long-term boiler reliability.
The boiler tries to light but fails to establish flame. The cause may be gas valve related, but ignition electrodes, gas supply and PCB signals must also be tested.
The boiler lights and then loses flame during operation. This can involve flame sensing, gas pressure, flue conditions, gas valve behaviour or control faults.
Combustion analyser readings outside expected parameters require professional assessment before any adjustment or component replacement is considered.
Gas valve testing and adjustment must only be carried out by a competent Gas Safe registered engineer. The work involves gas pressures, combustion performance and safety controls. If the boiler is unsafe, the engineer will explain the issue and the action needed to make the installation safe.
When a gas valve repair or replacement is required, the boiler is tested after completion. This includes operational checks and combustion analysis so the appliance is left working correctly and safely documented.
